Today is a day of celebration of the birth of Ronnie James Dio. From his early days as a doo-wop singer in Ronnie & The Prophets to fronting legendary bands Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and as DIO, Ronnie James Dio was, and still is, a source of inspiration. Ronnie was the guy that spoke for us; the lost generation. We were the last in line, we were lost children of the sea, and we were his Rock N’ Roll children. Even if you never got to know Ronnie personally, whenever I listened to him I felt as if he was in my mind and in my heart. Ronnie knew what I was going through and he was a voice of strength, hope, and assurance that regardless of the shit I was going through as a kid, I would break the chains and I would become my own person.
Ronnie James Dio not only left behind and extensive musical legacy but he left behind words of wisdom that I still go back to and read from time to time. In this post I have included some of my favorite Ronnie James Dio quotes. May you find inspiration in them as I have.
Happy Birthday, Ronnie. We miss you more than you’ll ever know.
“Music, Rock and Roll music especially, is such a generational thing. Each generation must have their own music, I had my own in my generation, you have yours, everyone I know has their own generation.”
“The best subjects are always people, who never fail to amaze me by their unpredictability.”
“Someday, I’ll be too old to run around the stage – though that won’t hopefully happen for a long while yet.”
“Lyrically I like to use themes that make the listener use his or her imagination and to give a little of the lessons I’ve learned in my own life.”
“I refuse to be beaten in any way shape or form, so I’m gonna beat this too.”
“Don’t live for pleasure. Make life your treasure.”
“This is your here, this is your now. Let it be magical.”
“Love is a never-ending smile.”
“And as we drift along, I never fail to be astounded by the things we’ll do for promises and a song.”
