Pasadena, California’s traditional metal heavyweights (and Brainfart favorites) Holy Grail have released a lyric video for the song “Dark Passenger.” If this song is any indication of what lies within their forthcoming album Ride The Void, I think it’s safe to say that Holy Grail will once again be delivering a facemelting masterpiece.
First off, I fucking hate “lyric videos” and it’s a trend I wish would go away. Actually, I never really “watch” them anyways. I usually put them on and then work in another window while listening. Where was I? Oh yes, the new Holy Grail song. “Dark Passenger” really shows a significant growth and progression for Holy Grail. At first listen, it kinda caught me off guard. It wasn’t so over the top (no pun intended) like I may have been expecting. This song has the band sounding tight and both musically and lyrically focused. Luna’s vocals are outstanding and for once, I can actually hear the bass guitar of Mr. Blake Mount. The production is light years ahead of Crisis In Utopia as this really seems to have captured the magic of Holy Grail live. With this song, it sounds like Holy Grail has found and secured an identity of their own and after multiple listens, it just solidified the reasons as to why I love this band so fucking much.
Ride the Void is set for an early 2013 release. One can only hope that the Mayans are full of shit and that the world will not end before I can hear a new Holy Grail album. Keep your fingers crossed and let’s hope that their calendar is completely inaccurate and that the world will end before Chad Kroger and Avril Lavigne can breed.
