Former Guns N’ Roses guitarist/songwriter Izzy Stradlin has released a new single/video for the song “Baby Rann” and I must say that after one watch of this I fucking loved it. Izzy always was the Keith Richards of Guns N’ Roses. After departing Guns N’ Roses in 1991, Izzy went on to form the JuJu Hounds with former Georgia Satellites guitarist Rick Richards. When they put that album out in 1992, I was floored as to how great it was. It really showed that Izzy’s mindset and musical soul were now resting in this southern inspired, roots oriented rock. With Izzy at the helm and in total control, it was easy to see that this quiet guy had more than a little to say and chose to do it through his music.
Izzy’s new song “Baby Rann” seems to pick up on that same rootsy, gritty vibe that he’s been doing for long than he was a member of Guns N’ Roses. This is also the first time since the JuJu Hounds album that Izzy seems to be stepping back into the public eye to actually promote some new material. Aside from actually rejoining Axl’s Guns N’ Roses for a handful of shows over the last few years, Izzy opted to do little to no press and released all of his album independently. I’m not sure what his change of heart is. Maybe getting back on stage has rekindled that fire in him to get back out and play live. Whatever it was I can only hope he’ll take this out on the road. Last time I saw this guy live was in 1992 on the JuJu Hounds tour and it was an amazing performance.
The video/single for “Baby Rann” features: Rick Richards on lead guitar, Taz Bentley on drums, and J.T. Longoria on bass. The video below was edited by Ed Shiers and filmed at Oceanway Studios in Hollywood, CA earlier in November.
