Nashville Pussy – Up the Dosage
Release Date: January 21, 2014
The release of Up the Dosage, the 7th album by Nashville Pussy, is upon us and after having given this album a good listen I have to be 100% honest here. Much like AC/DC, Nashville Pussy has pretty much made the same album 7 times now. The only difference is that I really fucking love AC/DC and they do their formula well. Nashville Pussy’s formula of southern drawling about getting fucked and getting fucked up gets really fucking old after, oh say, one song.
“Rub It To Death”, “Till the Meat Falls off the Bone”, “Before the Drugs Wear Off”, “White and Loud”, “Hooray For Cocaine, Hooray For Tennessee.” Do you see their formula here? This is the kind of shit that I would’ve gone hog ass wild over back when I was in high school but as a 40 year old who appreciates potty humor and tongue in cheek content, this shit just has me rolling my eyes and shaking my head. Give it rest y’all. We know you all are from the south, you all like to get laid, and you like to get fucked up. How many songs can one band have about this kind of asinine shit? Well, in Nashville Pussy’s case, roughly 11 out of 13 songs.
I feel sometimes that I like the idea of Nashville Pussy but when it comes down to it, they just do absolutely nothing for me. Nashville Pussy is actually a great fucking band. Their albums always sound amazing and are produced extremely well and Up the Dosage is no different. Lead guitarist Ruyter Suys is one of the best lead guitar players out there but aside from that, Nashville Pussy is a one trick pony showing little to no dynamics or growth creatively. I appreciate Nashville Pussy as a band and these cats have a pretty big fan base. I’ve seen them live and I know that they can bring it live and it’s a great time but this album just went in one ear and out the other. If you’re looking for a good soundtrack to your next hell raising redneck PBR drinking house party, this is without a doubt the album for you. If you’re looking for substantial music, you’re just not going to find it here.
