KISS Alive AGAIN!

kiss_concertliveKISS has been on the longest “farewell” tour of any band in the industry.  About 10 years ago, KISS told us they were packing it and calling it a day and 10 years later, they’re still at it.  KISS fans, also known lovingly as the KISS ARMY will voice many different opinions regarding KISS and how they’re doing things these days.  First off, there’s the fact that Ace Frehley and Peter Criss are no longer in the band.  They have been replaced by KISS post makeup drummer Eric Singer and former Black N’ Blue guitarist Tommy Thayer and they are also sporting the exact makeup of the people that they are replacing.  I still think that this is pretty corny and I totally think that they should’ve come up with new makeup.  Even back in the day when they brought in Eric Carr to replace Peter Criss, they replaced him with a new “character”.  Why not do that now?  I can bitch and moan about it all I want but the bottom line is this… I FUCKING LOVE KISS!

What I love about KISS is that no matter how big they are, how much money those guys have, they still put the fans on top and they really give us what we want.  The shows are still fun, the band sounds great and tight and the songs are still anthems to me.  Even at 36, I still play drums on the steering wheel when I hear “Deuce” or just about any song.  I love it that they didn’t go away.  In my honest opinion, they didn’t tarnish their legacy, they just extended it into a whole other generation.  See, where Ozzy just couldn’t deliver the same quality that he once did, KISS still manages to deliver a quality live performance and, again, give the fans what they want.

Another thing I have to say about KISS is that fact that they’re keeping their ticket prices affordable on this tour.  Unlike AC/DC and their absurd $89.50, KISS is offering the “cheap seats” at $25.00 and you can’t beat that.  KISS is also touring behind their upcoming album “Sonic Boom” which comes out on October 6th and Gene Simmons has stated that this album is more reminiscent of classic era KISS than anything they have ever done.  I guess we’ll see about that.  Gene, while I love the guy, is pretty delusional and has the tendency to talk out of his ass.  If I remember correctly, he had great things to say about their opus “Psycho Circus” and we all saw just how that one turned out.  Besides, does the world or the fans really need “new” KISS music?  Nah, I honestly am just happy to see them keeping it up on the touring circuit and still give the fans what they want.  We wanted the best… well… we still have them!
