The Brainfart Gives Thanks!

I always found holidays very odd. For instance, anniversaries are for celebrating your marriage or unity. Valentines Day is for celebrating love. Christmas is for buying tons of weird shit for kids and each other. Thanksgiving is a day for, well giving thanks. I always found this odd because, in my household, we don’t celebrate these holidays. We believe that, aside from Christmas, these kinds of “celebrations” are things that should be done all year round. Why use just one day as an excuse to buy overpriced shitty candy or jewelry? Why not celebrate love, unity, and thanks all year long? Anyways, to each their own.

It’s hard to believe that The Great Southern Brainfart was launched over 7 years ago. Seven fucking years ago! I remember starting out with the free WordPress site and thinking, what am I going to do? Will this thing mean anything to anyone but me? I just didn’t care and I dove in and gave this thing life. Over the years, this blog took on a life of it’s own, I’ve been lucky to have some amazing contributing writers and even my very own partner in crime/photographer, Emily Harris. This blog has grown beyond my wildest dreams and every day that I wake up to do something for this site, I feel the need to pinch myself. Is all of this really happening to me? Not bad for a fat kid who was told he’d always be a nobody, huh?

Thank you to all the bands (way to many to list) that have been huge supporters and great friends to me over the years. Getting to watch so many bands grow has been a really amazing experience for me. I’m sure it’s the way a parent feels when they watch their child grow, take those first steps, then run, then go to school only to graduate with honors. Not everyone can say that they have this experience and it’s not something I take lightly.

Thank you to all of the PR people who work tirelessly to promote their bands. PR work is a pretty thankless job at times and I just want to let you all know that I understand, acknowledge, and appreciate you’re hard work.  Big ass thanks to my mentor, Katherine Turman, who is always there for me when I need her.  Also, thanks to my best friend, James, for always pointing out errors in my posts.  It’s annoyingly awesome and I love him for it!

A HUGE thanks to Mrs. Brainfart who is always so very patient with me about coming in late after shows, working into the evening, and even while on vacation sometime. She is without a doubt my biggest supporter and I couldn’t do it without her.

Finally, I want to say thank you to you, the readers, for your dedication, support, and love. You all are the reason that I keep doing this. Your positive, and sometimes not so positive, feedback on my work is always appreciated and something that I truly love. The fact that you all take time out of your busy days to actually read one of my silly articles, reviews, or interviews means the world to me and when I hear from you all, it just validates what I do and continues to add fuel to the fire.

To all, I thank you. Let’s do this for another 9 years shall we? Happy Thanksgiving and don’t forget to wear sweatpants to dinner!
