As most of you know, White Wizzard made a triumphant return in 2018 with their ground breaking album Infernal Overdrive which saw the return of vocalist Wyatt Anderson and original White Wizzard guitarist, James J. LaRue. Ok, this is all a lie. It wasn’t triumphant, it was pretty much ignored by the metal media, and Infernal Overdrive is pretty much the sound of an artist on his last leg with an assembled band that sounded like they were breaking up while making the album.
After a handful of shows that nobody seemed to really care about and a disappointing reaction to this shit sandwich of an album, Jon Leon too to the interwebs (SURPRISE!) and released his final manifesto announcing the decimation of White Wizzard as we will ever know it:
Well the time has come.
I started White Wizzard in late 2007 a little over 10 years ago.
With the first line up we crafted a great EP that sadly had too much
talent in one band to last…..
From there….I wrote 4 full length albums I am very proud of and had some fantastically talented musicians
that played on them.
Regardless of the internet bullshit written about me or the band, it was formed in the spirit of the music I loved and
nothing more.
It has always been about the music to me.
I feel all of our work has been world class and not only do I feel it is the best and most consistent in the “classic metal revival” genre so to speak…
But I feel our last and final album Infernal Overdrive can hang with anything put out the past 20 years in rock and metal.
I am very proud of the work this project has done. I feel it can and will stand the test of time.
But time does pass and some things run their course.
So unfortunately I have to announce that White Wizzard is over.
There will be no more albums or live shows. The last album is it. I am glad we got to do it.
I am proud of the latest video for Chasing Dragons and I wish all members of the band past and present well
in their musical and personal journeys.
For me, a new ticket and a new ride must be bought and taken.
So as this journey ends, a new one begins.
This will be my last post about this. It is time to end Jon Leon as well.
Keep making music and loving it, because there is not much else in this world that is as real and special.
All the best and to the fans, thank you.
Jon Leon
“But I feel our last and final album Infernal Overdrive can hang with anything put out the past 20 years in rock and metal.” Oh my fucking god. Are you for real, Jon. How modest and humble of you. That fucking train wreck can’t even hang with Over the Top which was not just YOUR best album but a metal masterpiece. That being said, Leon has always been a delusional tool and it really saddened me to see Wyatt (WHYATT?) and LaRue running back to Pimmental’s side to put out such subpar music. Lucky for those guys, this album is so forgettable that nobody will even know that they were involved.
To Wyatt, LaRue, and that other dude, may you guys move on to better thing where you can be respected for playing truly great, reputable music. As for Jon Leon, what comes around goes around indeed buddy. How about all those Kickstarter incentives that never got honored? Maybe this is his way of filing for “bankruptcy” to keep from having to fulfill any more commitments. It makes sense because he is artistically bankrupt as well.
