Chris Robinson Takes Flight with As The Crow Flies!

With Rich Robinson out on the road the last few years with his new band, The Magpie Salute performing Black Crowes songs, it seemed that it would only be a matter of time that Chris Robinson would follow suite.  While still keeping busy and actively touring with the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, the elder Robinson announced that he would be hitting the road and performing Black Crowes songs much to the delight of long time Crowes fans.

As The Crow Flies will feature Robinson along with former The Black Crowes guitarist Audley Freed, bassist Andy Hess and keyboardist Adam MacDougall. The band will also include Robinson and MacDougall’s current CRB band mate Tony Leone on drums, along with up-and-coming guitarist Marcus King.

“Spring will be sprung and the songs will be sung,” said Robinson in a statement. “This crow will fly high with old friends and new. Bring on, bring on! I can’t wait to hit the stage with some rock ‘n’ roll for the ages. It’s been five years since I’ve had the privilege of singing these songs and with Audley Freed, Marcus King, Andy Hess, Adam McDougall and Tony Leone all onboard, a soulful rockin’ funky good time is guaranteed!”

The inaugural ATCF tour will begin on April 17 at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. The newly formed group will then head to Philadelphia before appearing at their previously confirmed slot at the Wanee Music Festival in Florida. From there the tour heads to Alabama, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Missouri, Colorado, Nevada and California with a final night coming on May 13 at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon.

Chris spoke with Ari Fink for an interview on SiriusXM’s Jam On (Ch. 29), and also discussed the formation of the band with Rolling Stone. Chris says these shows will be it for As The Crow Flies, at least for a few years, as he’ll be busy with The CRB. “I guess, so if we have a great time, we could do it again in a couple of years. But CRB are completely booked. After May, we go back out and do our thing. We’re making a new record this year, so we’re in the process of putting all the tunes together. So like I said, the time was right, the people are people I love and want to play with, so we struck while the iron was hot,” Robinson told Andy Greene. The vocalist also discussed his issues with his brother, setlists for the upcoming shows and much more.
