Album Review: Skull Fist – Way of the The Road

Skull Fist – Way of the Road
Release Date: October 26, 2018

Skull Fist is a band name that I hear a good bit. Every time I hear the name I think to myself, “Why don’t I listen to this band?” After giving their latest album Way of the Road a listen, I was reminded why. I don’t listen to Skull Fist because they’re fucking terrible. I mean, these guys are about as generic as that beer that came in a white can that just said “Beer” on it.

Right out the gates, “You Belong To Me” had me wondering just what the fuck I was listening to. Musically it was ok but the minute vocalist/guitarist Zach Slaughter opened his mouth, all I could think was how the hell did they settle on this guy as the vocalist? It sounds almost like the four guys all tried to sing and they just picked the one who sucked less who still sucks.

“Witch Hunt” is downright painful to listen to and the level of guitar wankery on this album is just unnecessary. I know that Skull Fist has a lot of credibility in the metal community but that doesn’t mean that they are necessarily a good band. In all honestly, Way of the Road is a collection of subpar heavy metal that lacks any kind of substance or conviction.

For some reason, I just can’t imagine anyone actually sitting down, listening to this album, and actually finding it to be any good. It took all I had to make it through the album and the minute it was over I actually had to listen to some Dr. John. You know it’s bad when a metal band’s album makes you not want to listen to metal. I get that some folks will love this band and this album but all I can say is that, in my opinion, Skull Fist is bottom of the barrel and Way of the Road solidified their place down there.
