It’s so fucking hard to believe that in 2019 The Great Southern Brainfart will be 10 years old. That’s a long fucking time to do anything. It’s longer than I’ve ever been in a band, longer than I’ve ever had a job, and nearly ½ has long as I’ve been with Mrs. Farthead. Ten fucking years and I owe it all to you. Yes, you; the one reading this right now so from the bottom of my cranky, snarky, little metal heart, I think you with all that I have.
Before you get worried and think that this is a “retirement” letter, you can rest assured that we are not going anywhere. As many of you may have noticed over the last couple of years, the content on The Great Southern Brainfart has grown to be much more dynamic and versatile than ever. This year alone we covered rock, hard rock, metal, thrash, death metal, classic rock, progressive, and even jazz. This will continue into the future as the Great Southern Brainfart expands its horizons. You will still get the best coverage we can give you on all the great hard rock and metal bands out there that we love but we’ll be covering other things as well that we love with hopes that open minded readers will open up and find something new to grasp onto.
Over the past couple of years, I have been honored to have an amazing group of people working for The Great Southern Brainfart. Emily Harris (my partner in crime) has been an amazing photographer when I needed her as has Jeri Mize. Two very talented people that dedicate themselves to the site when they can and I am honored to have what I feel are two of the best. We have also recently welcomed Eric Layton on board as a contributing writer and Eric brings a lot to the table which has really helped this blog to expand into something far beyond just the average hard rock/metal blog.
So yes, you’ll be getting death metal, you’ll even be getting Ghost coverage (thanks, Eric), but you’ll also hear about the cool shit that the psych rock world has to offer as well as the occult rock realm and hell, even more jazz and prog. Oh yeah, and don’t for the Talkin’ the Talk Podcast which will feature interviews with all kinds of interesting musicians, authors, actors, and whoever the fuck else will appear on a site called The Great Southern Brainfart. We know that former Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson won’t so he can just eat shit.
Ten years folks; ten years of The Great Southern Brainfart and I am every bit as excited about the site now than I’ve ever been. Thank you all so much for being such a huge part of this journey and please, be vocal. If there are bands you are passionate about and would like to see us write about and/or talk about, please let us know! This is YOUR site as well as ours.
Thanks for a great ten years. Here’s to another ten you bastards.
