In the ’90s, and in my opinion, God Street Wine (aka. GSW) was the cream of the crop. GSW are veterans of the ’90s Jam Band area coming up along side Blues Traveler, Spin Doctors, Dave Matthews Band, and Phish to name a few. Based on the musical and artistic merit alone, I thought that GSW should’ve been as big as their peers including Phish (who I thought GSW was far superior to).
GSW released some of my favorite albums of the era including the absolutely perfect $1.99 Romances. In 2019 GSW released This Fine Town which was a modern recording of some of the old fan favorites that never saw proper release. Songs such as “6:15”, “Cheap Utah Blues”, and “Stupid Hat” were so awesome to hear in a studio setting. This is the kind of thing a GSW fan (or of any band for that matter) would’ve died for back in the day so it was awesome to see GSW do this for themselves and the fan.
So what is all of this leading up to? Well, some of the best and worst news of 2023. The best: God Street Wine have announced that they will be doing two shows in 2023. The Worst: I can’t go to these shows. That aside, here are the dates:
September 30, 2023
New York City, NY
The Cutting Room
===========================================
October 1, 2023
Woodstock, NY
Leven Helm’s Studio
One can hope that these shows will maybe lead to an East Coast tour? Maybe? Guys? Are you hearing me?
