Formed in 2015, Dead & Company featured original Grateful Dead members Billy Kreutzmann (drums), Mickey Hart (drums), and Bobby Weir (guitar/vocals) rounded out with acclaimed musicians Jeff Chementi (keyboards), Otiel Burbridge (bass), and pop/rock star John Mayer (guitar/vocals.)
In summer of 2023, Dead & Company embarked on a sold, critically acclaimed Farewell Tour during which the band announced that they would not be touring anymore. In 2023, founding member/drummer Billy Krertzmann bowed out of the band and was replaced by long time Dead family member Jay Lane. They didnât say that they wouldnât ever do shows again so this alone had given us fans some hope that they are not done yet.
Describing their âfinalâ tour stop at the Los Angeles Forum, Variety wrote last year, âThe showâs arena-sized production complemented the grandness of the moment, the video screens cycling through psychedelic colors and imagery to match the lighting, which felt more Phish-like than previous outings. The L.A. crowd soaked â and smoked â it up in a warm collective embrace.â
After the tour, Maybe launched his solo acoustic arena tour, Jeff Chementi and Jay Lane joined Bobby Weirâs Wolf Brothers, Oteil Burbridge hit the road with his own Oteil & Friends tour, and finally, Mickey Hart dove back into the world of his world music projects Mystery Box and Planet Drum. Everyone had their thing going on and had Dead & Co fans (like me) mourning the end of such an amazing era of the Grateful Dead legacy. Well, we were blessed with some amazing news that Dead and Company isnât done just yet.
A year after announcing their final tour, Dead & Company will reunite at Las Vegasâ hottest, roundest new venue. Titled âDead Forever,â the residency will consist of 18 shows over six consecutive weeks, running May 16 to June 22, with each weekendâs three performances featuring a unique setlist. According to a press release, the residency will include ânever-before-seen visual storytelling from Dead & Company, providing fans with the ultimate connection to the music through these innovative and immersive shows.â
