Children of the Sun Guitarist/Songwriter Jacob Hellenrud Releases Debut Solo Single “Hollow.”

Swedish psych/roots rockers Children of the Sun have been a favorite of mine since I first laid ears on them back in 2019.  From flower power rockers to mature, seasoned psychedelic/roots rockers, Children of the Sun is responsible for putting out some of my favorite music of the last decade or so.  Songwriter/Guitarist Jacob Hellenrud had been hinting that he would be releasing some solo music since January but as they say, good things come to those who wait.  Jacob Hellenrud released his debut solo single, “Hollow” via all streaming platforms this week and to say it’s a departure from Children of the Sun is an understatement.

“Hollow” has Hellenrud flexing his natural ability as a fantastic vocalist in his own right and honestly has me wondering why he hasn’t sung a song or two in Children of the Sun.  Maybe this will change things?  Who knows but back to the song.  Tucking the high volume, high rock energy of Children of the Sun away for a bit, ” Hollow” is a gorgeous slice of Americana music.  Pulling from artists such as Hozier, Iron and Wine, and a splash of old school gospel country ala Ralph Stanley, one would be hard pressed to listen to this guy and think that he ISN’T from the Southern part of the United States.  This is a great testament of how the music of the world knows no boundaries and that music is truly universal.

Will there be a full Jacob Hellenrud solo album?  I’m not sure but you can bet your ass that I will be bugging the hell out of him until he either announces it, or actually makes one.  Until then, enjoy “Hollow” and if you like it, let him know!
