On November 5th the majority of America let it be known that the hatred of the LGBTQ+ community, the female population, and all people who aren’t white is a acceptable way to live among other things.
We’ve seen multiple major musicians speak out against the man who’s been called a “wannabe dictator” by Jack White, a “convicted felon, rapist, bigot” by Madonna, and “an American tyrant” by Bruce Springsteen. On Saturday night, W.A.S.P frontman Blackie Lawless let New York City and the world know that he was not “one of them” and proclaimed his fandom and support of Donald Trump before the encore at NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday night (11/16). Lawless gave a lengthy speech in praise of Trump before going into their 1985 song “Blind In Texas,” with Trump banners on stage behind the band and the photo of Trump standing up after being shot at in Pennsylvania projected onto the screen behind them.
As part of his asinine tirade, Lawless rambled for nearly 5 minutes saying, “Tonight, you may not be aware, but right next door to us over here in [Madison Square] Garden, there is a man who has undergone attempt after attempt, assassinations on his life, and this man has stood up for this country,” he said, referring to Trump making an appearance at the UFC fight at MSG, as cheers and a “U-S-A!” chant broke out. “He’s right next door right now at the Garden.”
“Now, I got two things that I’m passionate about the most. One of them is that freedom of speech. And the other one is about being a patriot. Because I’m here to tell you, I don’t care if you’re Republican, Democrat, Independent, you need to be a patriot of this country. I am willing to die for this country. I believe in it that much. And that man next door, he believes in it too.”
While this beautiful helping of Word Salad was met with audible cheers from the crowd, many audience members in the front row let Lawless and his band of idiots know that they didn’t approve by giving them the finger and yelling “Fuck You.” Others on social media have voiced disapproval too. Shayne Mathis called it “the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever seen at a metal show.”
Concert photographer The Tinfoil Biter, who was covering the show, wrote “Fuck you W.A.S.P” in an Instagram story, and added that photographers were told to stay for this last song “for something special to shoot.”
“I did NOT, as a poc female, consent to be at a spot where things can take a quick turn to be potentially not safe for mental/physical state,” she wrote. “I did NOT sign to come cover a TRUMP RALLY.”
“Fuck Blackie and the band,” wrote music journalist Zena Tsarfin in an Instagram story. “The tour is still going for three more weeks. This is who you’ll be supporting.”
Jackie Bett, vocalist of NJ punk/grind band Come Mierda, shared an Instagram story with a photo from the show and wrote, “FUCK W.A.S.P. Fuck you for ruining your own band for so many people. Fucking uneducated cornballs.”
I really should not be surprised at all because over a decade ago, Blackie decided that he was no longer a sexual pervert or fucked like a beast anymore. He was now a god fearing Christian who would dedicate himself to Christ. L O fucking L. So in addition to being a bible thumper, he’s now a racist, woman hating, LGBTQ hating, piece of breathing shit.
Now if we can just get the Satanic Temple factions to protest outside of W.A.S.P shows that would be amazing. How would that be for irony.

Don
I have been running this blog since 2009. AKA as the Great Southern Brainfart, Southeast of Heaven is my baby now and forever. I’ve had my ups and downs with bands over the years but they are all great experiences and memories. My Swedish friend Charlie said once, “Don is known for being one of the meanest bastards in American rock journalism.” It’s nice to be loved.
I also once took a shit in Anthrax’s dressing room toilet and didn’t flush.
