In 2007, Blind Melon announced that they would be reuniting as a band with a new lead singer, Texas based Travis Warren. Travis joined the band on a string of shows that lead to a very successful tour that was met with a lot of surprising acclaim from critics and die hard fans alike. The band spent much of the end of 2007 on the road and released an album of new material called “For My Friends” in 2008. The band toured relentlessly again wowing audiences and critics left and right but like all great things, it had to come to an end.
Rumors started flying that there was tension in between Travis and the rest of the band regarding money, status and even how things were operating on tour. I’m not sure how true any of this is and to be honest, I don’t really care. All I know is that it’s now official based on this press release from the band:
Good day to you all,
Given our recent convoluted history and taking into consideration all the questions we’ve been receiving about our status, now seems like a good time for a State of the Melon address. As we previously mentioned, our New Year’s Eve show in Detroit was the final show with Travis. He’s moving on to record his own record and we wish him the best. We’re continuing our search to find a singer that fits the band. If you know anybody who’s great, have ’em send an mp3 to: blindmelonsinger@gmail.com. All future shows, including the tour in Japan are being put on hold until we find a singer who can help us move forward with a new record. We are all writing new songs now with the anticipation of releasing a new album as soon as we can find a piece to fit our puzzle. We’ll let you know when things get rolling……..Thanks to you all!
B. Melon
While part of me is really sad to this come to an end, I’m glad to see that the band now knows that they can carry on through this and make music again. At least I hope they will. We all know that Shannon Hoon was a huge part of the Blind Melon thing but he wasn’t the ONLY creative force and soul of that band. They are a band that possesses many great songs; songs way too great to keep locked in a jar. I’m glad I had the opportunity to see them with Travis and he was fantastic. I wish Travis and Blind Melon the best of luck and much success in whatever paths they choose to travel.
