One Hour of Metal is where I either put my iTunes on shuffle or tune into a metal internet radio station and for one hour I document what I hear. The good, the bad and the down right awful are always represented with honesty in this segment. Some hours are better than others as you will see in this series. So lets get started shall we?
Kill Devil Hill ā Voodoo Doll
I love this fucking band and this album. This is a really cool song and it totally reminds me of a song that couldāve been on Ozzyās Diary of a Madman album or something. Lead singer Dewey has this old school, almost kind of sleaze metal kind of voice with just a touch of grunge in there to make it heavy. I love this shit!
Ratt ā Tell The World
This is probably one of my favorite Ratt songs. Itās a classic in its own right. The production itself sounds kind of dated but damn I love this song. This song totally reminds me of the old days, sitting in my room playing air guitar and having dreams or rocking thousands of people in an arena. It seems just like yesterday. I love it when songs do that.
Twisted Sister ā Blastinā Fast and Loud
Twisted Sisterās Club Daze Vol. 2 was another collection of unreleased Twisted Sister songs. Listening to this collection, itās easy to see why some of them were never released. This is one of the songs that was actually really cool. This song wouldāve had a great home on Under The Blade. Itās a fun, brainless Twisted Sister song. Nothing wrong with this one at all.
Dream Theater ā Caught In A Web (LIVE)
This song just goes on forever and it is NOT one of my favorite DT songs. Oh well. I went to the bathroom, got a second cup of coffee, and made it back to write this.
Powerglove – Power, Wisdom, Courage
I love this band but itās kinda funny hearing them kick in right after Dream Theater. As I listened to this, I thought to myself, āDamn. This doesnāt sound like Dream Theater.ā Haha. PWND by Powerglove. Anyways, I love this band and I love this song. So much fun to listen to.
W.A.S.P ā Harder Faster (Live)
I used the term āliveā loosely since most āliveā W.A.S.P isnāt really ālive.ā Either way, this is not one of W.A.S.P.ās shining moments. Probably one of my least favorite songs but what Iāve learned about W.A.S.P is that even my least favorite songs by them are still listenable and fun. Besides, Blackie Lawless can fucking sing his ass off.
Bruce Dickinson ā Inertia
Skunkworks is Bruce Dickinsonās unsung classic. That album doesnāt get nearly the praise that it deserves and this song is absolutely amazing and face melting. Matter of fact, every time this song comes on I pretty much have to stop everything Iām doing just to listen to it. His vocals are so strong and powerful. I canāt say enough about this song and album.
Megadeth ā Sleepwalker
Goddamn I love this song. Mustaine really found his groove again on United Abominations and this is hands down one of my favorite Megadeth songs of the last 20 years or so. Bang thy head brother. Bang thy head!
Opeth ā Famine
Iām really not sure what the hell I was thinking when I thought I would like this band. The way everyone talked about the āHeritageā album, you wouldāve thought I was missing out on the greatest thing to ever grace this earth. I picked it up, and listened to it a few times, and I just didnāt get it. Everyone also made a big deal about how the singer was using ācleanā vocals. Well, after hearing his voice, I can see just why he never did before. This song is just terrible. Please, be over soon.
Skid Row ā Livinā on a Chain Gang
Kick me in my fucking face. In 1992, Skid Row was an unstoppable force and this song just kicks all kinds of ass. The band is just on fucking fire and this album was just so well produced. Itās punchy, in your face, and sonically stellar to hear. Hearing this makes me miss that classic Skid Row line up but as with most things, it just wasnāt meant to be. Iām just glad that the magic and chemistry that this band once had was captured forever on this album.
Kingdom Come ā 17
Well hot damn. I canāt believe that I made it through this One Hour of Metal with only one real stinker in the bunch. Closing things out is one of my favorite Kingdome Come songs ever. These guys got a lot of shit for ripping off Zeppelin but ya know what? Iāve always said that they couldāve picked a way worse band to immolate. Besides, the fact that they pulled it off just showed their talent. Besides, this song just rules my face.
